FIFTEENTH GENERATION

52. Lewis FORTESCUE of Fallapit (61) was a Baron of the Exchequer on 6 Aug 1542. He signed a will on 26 Jan 1543/44. He died in 1545. He had an estate probated on 23 Oct 1545 in P.C.C (Pynnyng 38). Lewis, according to the text, was the 3rd son; it possibly means the 3rd legitimate son in view of the suggestion that one of the older Nicholas brothers was possibly a bastard.

Lewis studied law and was appointed Reader of the Middle Temple in Autumn 1536. On 6th August 1542 he was made 4th Baron of the Exchequer under Henry VIII. He acquired Fallapit through his wife and it was in the hands of a Fortescue to about 1869.

He was married to Elizabeth FORTESCUE of Fallapit (daughter of John FORTESCUE of Fallapit) before 1525. Lewis FORTESCUE of Fallapit and Elizabeth FORTESCUE of Fallapit had the following children:
