26. John FORTESCUE of Spridlestone (35). Third son

He was married to Alicia or Alice COOKWORTHY of Cookworthy (daughter of John COOKWORTHY of Cockworthy in Yarncombe). John FORTESCUE of Spridlestone and Alicia or Alice COOKWORTHY of Cookworthy had the following children:

child53 vi. Anthony FORTESCUE(36) was a Marshal of Army in Ireland in 1547. Anthony was appointed Marshal by a Patent dated 18th December 1547 (38 Henry VIII). In 1545 he served Henry in his expedition to Scotland. The Earl of Lennox went to Ireland to gain troops for this expedition, which were put under the Earl of Ormonde. Lennox selected a John Travers and Anthony Fortescue (letter 10th October 1545). This Anthony should not be confused with Sir Anthony Fortescue, brother of Sir John Fortescue of Salden - a much younger man, born about 1536.
