FIRST GENERATION

1. Sir Richard LE FORT of Normandy ⁽¹⁾. Sir Richard le Fort, a contemporary of William the Conqueror, the Duke of Normandy, was a very strong Norman knight and a cupbearer to him when he landed in England in 1066.The legend is that with his shield he saved the Duke from blows in battle. He was thenceforward known as Richard le Fort-Escu or Strong Shield.

Sir Richard Fortescu returned to Normandy, leaving his son, Sir Adam, who also fought at Hasting in England to settle in South Devon.

Sir Richard LE FORT of Normandy had the following children:
