Came to Australia In October 1852 aged 14 on the "Lady FitzHerbert" with his brother John Thomas and cousin James W Carr. His uncle James and cousin George sailed in the "Statesman". All propected for Gold at Forest Creek.

He was married to Selina DU MEURANT in Oct 1867. Selina DU MEURANT⁽⁶⁰⁰⁾ was born on 20 Nov 1848. She died on 10 Aug 1910. George Edward FORTESCUE and Selina DU MEURANT had the following children:
