1112. Hugh FORTESCUE ⁽⁴⁵⁰⁾ was born on 28 Mar 1891 in The Old House, Black Horse Lane, Swavesey, Cambridge. He died on 8 Jun 1975 in Winchester, Hants. He was buried in Holy Trinity, Southchurch, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Went to school in Hunting shire at one time in Division 4 Class 1 then at St Peter's College Peterborough. He was awarded a prize for service in the year 1913

Served in the Bedford Yeomanry in WW1. in Belgium and France

Headmaster at Hamstel Road Junior Boys School, Southend-on-Sea from 1932 to 1943, (evacuated to Ripley, Derbyshire from 1940 to 1942), then Eastwood School (1943-46), then Wentworth Road Secondary Modern School until retirement in 1953.

Became Councillor of Southend-on-Sea and was on the Education Committee for over 25 years. Fortescue Chase, Thorpe Bay, was named after him.

When his wife died he moved from 9 Daines Close, Thorpe Bay, Southend-on-Sea, to Kewlinga, 12 Heatherdene Road, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, Hants - until his death.

He was married to Ada Dorothy WADDINGTON (daughter of Isabella ALLAN) on 29 Dec 1920 in Colchester, Essex. Ada Dorothy WADDINGTON⁽⁴⁵⁰⁾ was born on 19 Sep 1893 in 16 Annette Street, Gorbals, Glasgow. She was baptised in 1894. She was confirmed on 6 Mar 1910 in St Mary at the Wall, Colchester, Essex. She was cremated in 1969 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. She Gravestone in 1969 in Holy Trinity Church, Southchurch. She died on 9 Oct 1969 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Grew up at 150 and 151 Butt Road, Colchester which is near the barracks. They were sold in 1946 and she got a quarter share through Isabella's will. When the younger siblings were born she went to live with Grandma.

Trained as a teacher 1912 to 1914 at St Katherine's Clollege, Tottenham. Won a prize in 1914 her second year at College. Was engaged previously before marrying Hugh. Was in Southend 1919 - 20 from letters to Hugh. Taught as a relief teacher in Southend on Sea in 1925 to 1926. Taught in Buckinghamshire 1931 to 1932 and 1942 to 1956 Later taught at Thope Hall School until she died.
