249. Sir John FORTESCUE 1st Baronet of Nova Scotia⁽³⁰³⁾ was born in 1592. He was baptised in 1592 in Mursley Church, Bucks. ⁽³⁰⁴⁾ He died in 1656. Sir John Fortescue, the eldest son of Sir Francis, was baptised at Mursley in 1592. He married Frances, daughter of Sir Edward Stanley, Knight of the Bath, of Ensham, Oxfordshire. In 1636 he was created Baronet of Nova Scotia by Charles I. He was in arms on the king's side in 1644, was taken prisoner in May 1644, died in September 1656, and was buried at Mursley. Sir John was probably Roman Catholic; his children certainly were.

He was married to Frances STANLEY Of Ensham, Oxon (daughter of Sir Edward STANLEY KB of Ensham, Oxon) before 1614. Frances STANLEY Of Ensham, Oxon⁽³⁰⁵⁾ died in 1657. She was buried on 4 May 1657. Sir John FORTESCUE 1st Baronet of Nova Scotia and Frances STANLEY Of Ensham, Oxon had the following children:
