548. Hugh FORTESCUE ^(625)(626) was baptised on 2 Jun 1665 in Mevagissey. ⁽⁶²⁷⁾ Mevagissey Parish Register He signed a will on 15 Jun 1714. He died in 1719.⁽⁶²⁸⁾ He had an estate probated on 16 Feb 1719/20 in P.C.C (Shaller 30). Hugh Fortescue of Filleigh was M.P. from 1689 to 1708, representing
Tregony, Grampound and Truro, then Tregony and finally St Michael's,
all Cornwall. Earl of Clinton, Ist Lord Fortescue

He was married to Bridget BOSCAWEN (daughter of Hugh BOSCAWEN and Lady Margaret CLINTON) on 19 Oct 1692. They were cousins. Only daughter and heir. Bridget BOSCAWEN ⁽⁶²⁹⁾ died in 1708. First wife of Hugh. She was the only child of Lady Margaret Clinton
daughter of Theophillus, twelfth Baron Clinton and 4 th Earl of
Lincoln. Hugh FORTESCUE and Bridget BOSCAWEN had the following children:

618 i. Margaret FORTESCUE⁽⁶³⁰⁾ was born on 1 Mar 1693. She was baptised on 3 Apr 1694 in St Michael Penkevil. She died in 1760. Died unmarried. The Barony came to Margaret after Hugh died but did
not assume it . It went to Margaret Rolle, Countess of Orford upon her
death.
619 ii. Bridget FORTESCUE⁽⁶³¹⁾ was born in 1696. She died in 1743. Died unmarried
620 iii. Lord Hugh FORTESCUE 1st Baron Fortescue of Castle Hill ⁽⁶³²⁾ was born in 1695. He died on 3 May 1751. Named in his father's will.

Created 1st Baron Fortescue of Castle Hill ( 5 th July 1749 ) with
special remainder to his half brother (Matthew). Called to Parliament
as 1st and last Earl Clinton. called to Parliament as 15 Mar 1720/21
as 14th Lord (Baron) Clinton a title he inherited from his maternal
grandmother. Made Knight of the Bath in 1725 (Burke's).

Changed the residence name from Filleigh to Castle Hill.
621 iv. Arthur FORTESCUE⁽⁶³³⁾ was born in 1699. He died before 1705. This is assumed as a Second Arthur was born in 1705. Died in childhood
622 v. Boscawen FORTESCUE⁽⁶³⁴⁾ was born in 1701. He died in 1717. No issue.
623 vi. Robert FORTESCUE⁽⁶³⁵⁾ was born in 1703. Died in childhood
624 vii. William FORTESCUE⁽⁶³⁶⁾ was born in 1704. Died in childhood
625 viii. Arthur FORTESCUE⁽⁶³⁷⁾ was born in 1705. Died in childhood
626 ix. Theophilus FORTESCUE MP for Barnstaple⁽⁶³⁸⁾ was born in 1707. He died in Mar 1745. No issue

He was married to Lucy AYLMER (daughter of Lord Matthew AYLMER 1st Baron Aylmer) before Jun 1714.⁽⁶³⁹⁾ Lucy AYLMER⁽⁶⁴⁰⁾ was born about 1687. She died on 18 Feb 1767. Mentioned in husbands will. Died age 80 she was Hugh's second wife.
